I spent almost every Saturday when I was in high school in various kitchens throughout the neighborhood.  I spent a lot of time tutoring and the kitchen always seemed to be the easiest place to work because it did away with the constant need for requests for water and a snack.  If we were already water and snack adjacent, it would be easier to watch the student and keep them on task. The proximity related pressure provided by the one of the other parents hanging out  in there and lingering over cups of coffee didn’t hurt either. The word of mouth helped a lot, too. Other parents would drop in and out and notice how hard we were working and then inquire about my availability.  The experience was amazing and it actually helped me when I was looking for a job because I had references from people who knew me well.
